Unrestricted Corpus fund

The amount donated will add to the principal of the Corpus fund. The interest earned will be used primarily to support the start-up requirements of new faculty members. This constitutes an important component of our endowment as contributions to this fund will attract exceptionally bright faculty candidates with certain start-up funds provided in a timely manner. These grants will also support public outreach, infrastructure and other research activities and initiatives of the institute in the long run. The operational utilization of the above unrestricted corpus will be managed by the empanelled endowment committee members. The Endowment Committee members will comprise a balanced pool of academicians within the TIFR-H community.

Restricted Corpus fund

The endowment will be utilized for encouraging deserving students and strengthening the Institute’s backbone support, by offering awards to students and staffs showing exemplary services to the institute. The donor may wish to support new awards for administration staff, technical staff, students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty.

Project specific or Principal investigator (PI) fund

The endowment donor can choose to contribute to the development of a particular project or research activity of the Institute. This would include any existing or new area of research that TIFR-H would also like to venture into. The endowment donor can specify the conditions for utilization of the fund. S/he may also choose a PI to manage his or her contribution. This could be specified when contributions are made in a specific research program. The PI will be granted full flexibility in the utilization of the funds, within the institute norms and conditions as specified by the donor. Any interest earned during the operation of this fund may contribute to the principal of the corpus fund. Some examples of research activities include.

Infrastructural endowment

To grow into a global institute of repute, TIFR-H would require developing strong infrastructure support for its students, administrative staff, faculty members and their families. We believe in building a cohesive academic society to nurture a sense of pride to be affiliated with TIFR-H, and to set a high bar for research in Science and Technology in the country. The contributions will help to build and maintain science centres/museums, sports & recreational centres, housing complexes, libraries, lecture halls, research laboratories and administrative units.

Travel support

The principal of the endowed amount will be primarily utilized for supporting the travel expenses of student, staff and faculty for attending various conferences, workshops and symposiums within India or abroad. Apart from these, the funds from this category could also be utilized for various outreach initiatives and VSRP student support. Endower will have the authority to either fund a single or multiple initiatives under the ‘travel support’ endowment category.

Faculty chairs

There are two subcategories for “Faculty Chairs”, which the endower can select:
a) Invited senior scientists: Eminent scientists involved in outstanding research initiatives throughout the country could be invited to become an endowed chair professor.
b) Existing faculty members of TIFR-H: The donor can choose to sponsor a particular TIFR-H faculty and the faculty will be listed as:[Name] Chair Reader/Associate Professor/Professor.
Contributions to this chair will add to the principal of the Corpus funds. Such a position will help in promoting the sponsor/donor through the performance of an outstanding scientist, as featured both on the institute website and whenever the concerned faculty member delivers talks at international conferences and national venues. The chair position will be for a period of 3 years.
