About Us

Established in 1945 at Colaba, Mumbai, as the vision of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, founder of India’s atomic energy program, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) soon emerged as an internationally renowned research institution with five functional centers across the country.

In 2009, on the birth centenary of Dr Bhabha, the foundation stone for the ambitious new campus, spread over 200 acres of land in the Gachibowli area of Hyderabad city, was laid. TIFR-Hyderabad is envisioned to become an institution of global repute, committed to create innovation in both fundamental and applied sciences. Major state-of the-art facilities are planned in experimental and theoretical research, to foster the growth of this campus towards a leading research institution in the world.

The first center of TIFR-H, the TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (TCIS), is already functional, with eminent pool of faculty in Physics, Chemistry and Biology who have worked at premium research institutes, universities, laboratories and industries worldwide.
